Jesse Barfield, a former Tenafly resident, turns 56 on Thursday.
Barfield, an outfielder with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays, was born Oct. 29, 1959.
After playing the first nine seasons of his 12-year-career with the Blue Jays, Toronto traded Barfield in 1989 to the Yankees.
The Joliet, Ill., native hit 241 career home runs, including a league-high 40 dingers in 1986. He twice won a Gold Glove Award and was an All-Star with the Blue Jays. He closed out his baseball career in 1993 with the Yomiuri Giants.
